Alan Griffiths started his creative career in the early 80's playing synthesizers and any other instrument available to him, on most Sunday's he would be at speakers corner, Hyde Park, London, taping the speakers views and then later putting them to an industrial soundtrack.  By the mid and late 80's he was a freelance  photographer, photographing bands  for publicity shots and working on album covers, he also experimented with photography using many different materials, these early experimentations would become a driving force later in his life.

By the 90's he went into fashion and stopped taking any commercial photographs altogether. In the 10 years that followed he made clothes for Fendi, Yves Saint Laurent, Queen Beatrice, 102 Dalmatians and Harry Potter. He was forced out of the fashion industry in 2003 due to high rates and the strong sterling exchange rate. Later that year he took his first employed job with the NHS, as a Renographer . After 4 years as a Renographer,  having very little chance of promotion  in 2008 he took up Photography, again experimenting with new ideas and had his first exhibition at The Faux gallery in July of the same year. Surprised at the positive feedback he went on to do the Village Green Event, held by Metal Culture in September 2008. Since then he has opened his own art gallery called Baba Yaga (contemporary art space) showing works by John Bulley, Simon Kirk and Lydia Hardwick. situated at Battlesbridge, Essex. After the success of the Micheal Chevrolet exhibition Alan Griffiths decided to close the Baba Yaga Gallery and concentrate  on his own artwork.

Artwork

We say we live in a rat race and I tend to agree. We are so busy trying to fit everything into our lives we lose track of our ever changing environment going on around us. It's this ever changing environment of the decaying structures that has attracted my attention. Are we missing a New Form Of Beauty. The more I look the more it intrigues me.

It's good to push the boundaries within myself and the techniques that are being applied. I work in mixed media as there are no ends to the possibilities. Its important to bring the elements together. The material the subject is made from and the finished piece of artwork.
